My mother owns a unit that she was renting to a single mother with a 6 month old baby. The real estate constantly bugged her to raise the rent or even sell the place because the market was good at the time. That kid is now 4 and their rent remained the same until they moved out the other month. OP is YTA, my mother is what I would consider normal.
